BMW 1600, 2002 (1967-1976)

The BMW 1600 and 2002 is a compact executive car produced between 1966 and 1977. The first model was the 1600-2 and was a smaller and more affordable than the New Class Sedan for which is was based.

The 1600-2 was sold through 1975 with a 1.6 L M10 engine producing 84 hp and 96 ft-lb of torque. A high-performance version designated the 1600 TI was released in 1967 with higher compression and side-draft carburetors produced 110 hp.

In 1973 the 2002 Turbo was launched producing a staggering 170 hp and 177 ft-lb of torque. Introduced just before the 1973 oil crisis, only 1,672 were built making it the rarest version of the 2002. This was also BMWs first turbocharged production car.
