BMW 3-Series E21 (1977-1983)

BMW's E21 marked the first-generation of the Bavarian auto brand's ubiquitous 3 Series. Initially offered as a two-door sedan with four-cylinder engines in 1975, fuel-injection and a six-cylinder engine was soon developed for the 1977 models. This "compact executive" class vehicle was available as either a two-door sedan or two-door convertible with a rear-wheel-drive layout. Two engines were offered: a 1.6-2.0 L M10 I4 badged as the 315; 316; 318; 318i; 320, and 320i over its run. The 2.0-2.3 L M20 I6 was badged as a 320/6; and 323i over its production life. The lower numbers (315; 316) served as base-models, with the 323i being the top-end offering. Powered by a 2.3-liter six-cylinder engine using Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, the 323i reached 62 mph in 8.7 seconds with a top speed of 124 mph.
