BMW 5-Series E60/E61 (2004-2010)

The BMW E60 and E61 are model successors to the 5 Series BMW E39. The E stands for "entwicklung" which means "development" or "evolution" in German and the E60 is the company's 60th model design. The E60 is a 4-door sedan and E61 a 5-door wagon Touring model, both introduced in 2004. Compared to its predecessor, the E60 is both longer and wider, with added trunk space. It saw height increases as well, which added to an overall weight increase. Models under the E60 line include: 520i (2003-2010), 523i (2005-2010), 525i (2003-2010), 528i (2007-2010), 530i (2003-2010), 535i (2007-2010), 540i (2005-2010), 545i (2003-2005), 550i (2005-2010), and the M5 (2005-2010). All E60 models included 6-speed ZF Friedrichshafen AG transmission (manual & automatic) with most M5 models housing a 7-speed automatic SMG III, with 6-speed manual only in some markets. Significant styling changes were introduced in 2008 models which included head and tail light revisions, front bumper re-styling, and more significant changes to the interior's iDrive system.
