Mercedes-Benz S-Class (1992-1999) W140

The Mercedes-Benz W140 S-Class is a series of flagship luxury vehicles produced from 1991 to 1998. SE and SEL variant with a long wheelbase were the first to be available in North America followed shortly by the SEC coupe. In 1993 all models were changed to a letter-first naming structure and became known as the S-class that is well known today. The W140 was the first Mercedes with a long list of new innovations including dual-pane windows, power assisted closing doors and trunk, and rear parking sensors.

In 1991 the 600 SEL and 600 SEC were introduced featuring a 402 hp V12 engine. The SEL featured many interior upgrades including leather dashboard, suede headliner and double needle stitched Napa leather to separate it from its lower trimmed siblings.

The S 600 long wheelbase was the pinnacle of performance for big sedans at the time for which performance had not been set previously. The big performance sedan was the precursor and basis for the Maybach 57 and 62 models. The big V12 propelled the S 600 from 0-100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds and had a top speed of 179 mph.
