Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class (1998-2003) W208

Introduced in 1997, the Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class was based on the W202 C-Class platform launched three years earlier. The two-door vehicle offered as both a coupe and convertible served an essential niche for the Stuttgart-based brand as an entry-level option for luxury buyers. Although it took cues from the more expensive E-Class, the W202, as mentioned, utilized the more modestly priced C-Class platform. Two versions were offered initially--a four-cylinder CLK 200 putting out 132 hp; and a four-cylinder supercharged CLK 230 Kompressor putting out between 190-194 hp. Throughout its lifetime, Mercedes-Benz put a range of engines and powertrains in the vehicle, including a CLK55 AMG released in 2002 powered by a hand-assembled 5.4-liter V8 engine delivering a robust 362 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque.
