Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class (1998-2004) R170

The Mercedes-Benz R170 SLK-Class is the first generation of compact luxury roadsters produced between 1996 and 2004. The SLK was designed to be a sporty, light roadster and is based on the Mercedes C-Class sharing many drivetrain and chassis components.

The SLK was available with a 2.0L to 2.3L inline 4-cyl engine or a 3.2L V6 engine producing up to 215 hp. For the 2000 model year, the SLK line was updated with redesigned front and rear fascia, restyled interior, and engine choices.

In 2001 the SLK AMG was introduced to compete with the Porsche Boxster and BMW M Roadster. It featured an AMG built 3.2L high-performance engine producing 349 hp as well as an upgraded speed shift transmission, larger intakes, and larger brakes.
